Vintage bureau desk
A vintage bureau desk, fully refurbished and ready to find a new home. This bureau desk provides generous storage space, as well as a drop leaf panel which can be used for writing or working on a laptop. It’s an ideal piece of furniture for anyone who needs to work from home but doesn’t have a dedicated office space.
This bureau desk has been finished with midnight blue paint on the outside, and light grey on the inside. A layer of wax has then been applied on top for extra protection and a lovely sheen. The inside of the drop leaf panel has been left as natural wood, and finished with a beautiful satin varnish. Inside, the horizontal surfaces have been covered with a white and grey floral lining, which is durable, waterproof and heat resistant.
The hinges on the drop down panel have been replaced with larger, stronger versions. The back panel is a brand new piece of wood. New decorative handles have been added which add a touch of class, and a new key has been cut for the lock.
As this is a vintage piece of furniture, there are some minor marks on the wood as you’d expect. But this gives it a lovely warm character and provides a nod to its history. In addition, the frame had twisted very slightly over the years, so I had to make some adjustments to the drop leaf panel in order to ensure it closes properly. You will only notice this when you open it, because I had to move one of the hinges forward a few millimetres. This doesn’t affect the function or the beauty of the piece, but you’ll see it if you look closely so it’s good to be aware of it.
