This coffee table features a unique lift top mechanism, which opens to reveal a generous storage area measuring 72cm x 43cm x 8cm. It uses a soft close hinge which is able to lock in the open position, and also slow the descent. Previous purchasers have been a mum who used it to store her kids arts & crafts, and a young professional who wanted somewhere to put his gadgets and devices.

It is made sustainably from reclaimed wood which was rescued from landfill. I have applied oil and varnish all over for protection and heat resistance. And it has a lovely sheen, as well as an incredibly smooth finish. When you rub your hand across the top you can feel the contours of the wood, so you still get that nice natural feel.

I have also left in the nail holes and scars from its previous life. I think this adds to the personality of the piece and is a reminder that the table has been created in a sustainable and eco-friendly way. I have built this coffee table to last many years, and it is very strong and sturdy. It takes the weathered look of reclaimed wood, and then adds the unexpected lift top mechanism to make it relevant in today’s world.
